Biography
How did I become a creative arts counselor?
It was an evolution really that started very far back, who knows how far back, maybe as far as my early childhood. I was born into a very artistic family. My father played bass in the National Symphony. My mother played piano and was an artist. I was encouraged to follow along those lines. Over the years I made a series of choices that steered me toward the arts. I had a predisposition to most of the arts, especially music and the visual arts. I found I had “perfect pitch” for instance and was drawn to music, and so my choices went. I followed an artistic thread of pearls that took me to the person I am today. I’m pretty sure I won’t stop here though, so this is an ongoing saga.
I went through many phases of engagements as an artist from musician to ballet dancer to painter and a lot of artistic careers in-between too numerous to mention here. I got a degree in fine arts from Humboldt State University. Whatever I did, it was usually something that included some aspect of the arts.
I began to teach somewhere along this time line, and I have to say that teaching became my finest art. It is my greatest pleasure to help show others that they are talented and innately creative. I did this in many ways through many artistic mediums. Whatever the art, however, the underlying principles apply to all the arts.
As you choose and explore the art of your choice, you will also be learning the universal language of creativity itself.
Please feel free to ask me about this. I offer a free consultation in which your questions will be addressed in detail in addition to helping you find direction and clarity as the artist that you are.
